Chelsea club manager Jose Mourhino is reportedly making a hard run at landing Atletico Madrid star midfielder Koke at the end of the current Premier League season.
According to Mail Online, Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo observed Koke during Atletico Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Deportivo. The Spanish newspaper AS reported Koke’s release clause is around £50 million – a hefty sum, but one that could turn Chelsea’s midfield, one of its only weaknesses, into one of its biggest strengths. To leverage Atletico Madrid into parting ways with Koke, Mail Online added that Chelsea is also willing to send back Filipe Luis, who they acquired from Madrid last year. Luis has not lived up to the billing in Chelsea and failed to make an impact for the club this season.
Jorge Resurrección Merodio, more commonly known as “Koke” has played his entire career for Atletico Madrid, dating back to his youth career from 2000 to 2008. Since 2009 he has 17 goals and has been one of the fastest rising stars in the Champions League.
Chelsea ranks No. 1 in the English Premier League and is the prohibitive favorite to win the Championship when the season ends.
