Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas hopes that Arsenal fans will understand and forgive his decision to join his former club’s bitter London rivals this summer, report the Daily Star, with the Spaniard admitting that he will always identify with the Gunners:
“I will always have the feeling of being a Gunner. I know when I go back to play at the Emirates it will be a special moment.”
Fabregas returned to the Premier League from La Liga giants Barcelona this summer but, with no interest from former club Arsenal, he made the decision to sign for Jose Mourinho and Chelsea, something that he admits he didn’t see coming:
“If someone had told me five years ago that I’d be playing for Chelsea under Mourinho I wouldn’t have believed them. But life is full of twists and turns.”
Former Arsenal players, including Fabregas’ one-time teammates Samir Nasri and Emmanuel Adebayor, have come in for some stick when returning to face the Gunners after leaving in acrimonious circumstances, but Fabregas hopes that his situation will be different:
“I know that the Arsenal fans will understand me. I have no doubts.”
