Blues star Matic reckons £20m signing could become one of Europe’s best wingers.
Liverpool are on the verge of signing Serbia winger Lazar Markovic from Benfica after activating the 20-year-old’s £20m release clause, according to the Daily Mail.
Markovic is widely considered to be one of the most exciting players of his generation.
Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic played with him at Benfica before re-signing for the Blues in January.
The players are also both full internationals with the Serbian national team.
Matic, who has 13 senior caps to his name, is convinced that Markovic, who has 12 caps, is good enough to cause a stir in the Premier League.
However, Matic, 25, says that Markovic must improve his attitude towards training if he is to fully reach his potential.
If he does mature, Matic believes that Markovic could become unstoppable.
He is quoted by The Mirror as saying: “What can I say about our Markovic? It was excellent playing with this fantastic kid for six months.
“He has such massive potential that if he changed his attitude in training he could be one of Europe’s best players in his position.
“But he’s young, he’ll mature, and then nobody will be able to stop him!”
If Markovic does complete his move to Liverpool, he could line up against Matic when the Reds host Chelsea in the Premier League during the second weekend in November.
