The Brazilian expressed his love for the Portuguese club.
Chelsea midfielder Ramires has revealed a desire to rejoin Benfica in the future after declaring his love for the Portuguese club.
The Brazilian midfielder spent just one season at Estadio da Luz before departing in 2010 to sign for the Blues in a £17 million deal and has remained an integral figure in west London under four different managers.
His tireless work-rate has endeared the 26-year-old to supporters at Stamford Bridge and they’re bound to be rocked after the revelation that he would welcome a move back to Lisbon later in his career.
“Benfica have a great team with a great past, a great coach. Football is full of surprises and hopefully I’ll return one day,” he is quoted as saying to Portuguese publication A Bola.
“I’ve still got a tremendous amount of affection for Benfica, not just because they opened the door to Europe for me but because of all the things I experienced there, how they welcomed me and how well everything turned out. I can only thank the club.”
Chelsea are unlikely to let Ramires leave in the near future, as it appears that he will be a pivotal member of Jose Mourinho’s squad this term.
