Chelsea are following the likes of Raphael Varane, Mehdi Benatia and Eliaquim Mangala, and may try landing at least one of them this summer…
Premier League heavyweights Chelsea are keen to add a world-class defender to their ranks this season, after bidding adieu to Brazilian David Luiz.
The Blues are understood to be keeping tabs on Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane, AS Roma’s Mehdi Benatia, and Porto’s Eliaquim Mangala, and reports in The Daily Express reveal that the club may try landing one of them this summer.
The Blues currently have Gary Cahill and John Terry as the only natural central defenders in the team right now, with Branislav Ivanovic capable of adjusting in a makeshift role. However, an injury to any one of them could leave the west Londoners in a spot of bother. New signing Kurt Zouma could provide cover, but he lacks experience at the highest level.
It is believed that manager Jose Mourinho is chasing Varane as his primary target. As far as Benatia is concerned, Roma are believed to be looking to swap him for Romelu Lukaku, while 23 year old Mangala, is also on the wishlist of Manchester United and Man City.
