A look at where Cesc Fabregas fits in among the best midfielders in the league.
With Chelsea completing the signing of former Arsenal man Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona this week, much has been made of where this puts Jose Mourinho’s side in terms of next season’s title race – as well as Arsene Wenger’s decision not to re-sign the Spaniard due to his being happy with the midfielders already on the books at the Emirates Stadium.
The Premier League is home to numerous world class players in every position, and some of the signings that could come in this summer will only add to that list.
So for now, here’s where the Blues’ latest signing ranks among the best midfielders in the league.
10) Adam Lallana (Southampton)
A player who has deservedly risen to be regarded among the best in the Premier League is Southampton’s Adam Lallana.
The 26-year-old enjoyed a terrific season in 2013/14, putting himself in contention for a key role in England’s World Cup squad this summer and possibly sealing a big-money move to Liverpool.
Now valued at around £25-30m by his club, Lallana has shown great ability and versatility in a number of attacking midfield roles this season, operating either centrally or out wide to good effect, finishing the campaign with ten goals and six assists in all competitions.
