5) Mesut Ozil (Arsenal)
A club-record £42.5m signing from Real Madrid last summer, German playmaker Mesut Ozil will be seen as one of the reasons Arsenal felt they could afford not to bring Cesc Fabregas back to the club.
The 25-year-old may have had something of an inconsistent first year in the Premier League, but there have been enough moments of sheer class and intelligence that show why he became widely regarded as one of the most important players during his time at the Bernabeu.
In total, Ozil managed seven goals and eleven assists in all competitions for the Gunners, and played his part in helping the club end their long wait for silverware as they triumphed in the FA Cup final. More to come, but still not bad for his first season in England.
