Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has offered a coaching role at the club to his former star striker Didier Drogba. reports the Sunday Times.
The 35-year-old Ivorian hitman’s contract expires at the end of the season, and he could return to Stamford Bridge as a forward’s coach under his former Portuguese boss.
The role would be as a player/coach, meaning the striker could also be used as a squad backup option, with Chelsea expected to sign a world-class forward when the transfer window opens.
Owner Roman Abramovich has apparently sanctioned the deal.
Drogba starred for Chelsea between 2004 and 2012, and won back-to-back titles under Mourinho during his first two seasons at the club. His last kick for the club saw him bag the winning goal in the Champions League final, and he is still very much regarded as a club legend by the club’s faithful.
This term, Drogba has scored 12 goals so far, and is looking forward to a romantic Champions League clash with his former club Chelsea next week.
