Chelsea have not been extremely active in the transfer window, but they are on the verge of making a relatively expensive signing in midfielder Axel Witsel.
According to Squawka, the Blues are closing in on a deal worth approximately £23m for the Zenit St. Petersburg star.
The 26-year-old midfielder has been linked to Chelsea for a while, as the Blues are expected to part ways with Jon Obi Mikel.
Witsel offers plenty of upside for Chelsea, as he scored four goals for Zenit St. Petersburg in the 2014-15 season.
If a deal with Chelsea is to officially go through, Witsel will be leaving a club that he is under contract with until 2017.
The Belgian international offers title-winning experience of his own, as he helped lead his team win the 2014-15 Russian Premier League.
Chelsea will look to defend their Premier League title, but manager Jose Mourinho is taking a calculated approach in the transfer window by limiting the team’s spending.
