Blues have been monitoring young German for the past 12 months now.
Chelsea are nearing a multimillion-pound deal to bring highly-rated Bayer Leverkusen midfield player Andre Schurrle to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, reports the Daily Mirror.
The young Germany international is currently one of the most sought-after players plying his trade on the Continent, with the west London club having been keeping close tabs on Schurrle since last summer, when the Blues failed in a bid to lure him to the capital.
However, the Uefa Champions League holders are understood to be so keen to land the 22-year-old when the transfer window reopens on 1 June that a deal in the region of £25 million has reportedly already been lodged with his employers in the Bundesliga.
Schurrle, capped 22 times by Germany since making his international debut three years ago, scoring an impressive seven times in the process, has been one of Leverkusen’s stand-out performers so far this season, netting 14 goals in 41 games in all competitions for the high-flying Bundesliga outfit.
“Andre Schurrle has probably signed a pre-contract deal with Chelsea,” Leverkusen’s general manager Wolfgang Holzhauser is quoted as saying by Kicker magazine.
“It all depends on whether we let him go. We have received a concrete offer for a fee which we are considering.
“But the price alone is not decisive. We must also have alternatives, which we don’t have yet.”
