The Blues are willing to offload Luiz to land Carvalho.
Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho has been a long-term transfer target for Manchester United, but Chelsea are planning a swap deal involving David Luiz, according to Football Direct News.
The 22-year-old only broke into the first team at Sporting this season after previous loan spells with CD Fatima and Cercle Brugge, but his rise to stardom has been rapid.
In 32 appearances for the club in all competitions Carvalho has helped to break up the dominance in the Primeira Liga of Benfica and FC Porto and also earn himself two international caps for Portugal.
The youngster is fully expected to be included in the nation’s 23-man squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil this summer and this form has attracted the interest of some of Europe’s biggest sides.
As well as United and the Blues, Barcelona and Juventus have also been keeping a close eye on Carvalho and the likeliness of the Portuguese ace being at the Estadio Jose Alvalade next term is looking increasingly unlikely.
When David Moyes was in charge at Old Trafford the Scot used the club’s strong links with Sporting to begin negotiations over a £35m transfer.
However, since the 51-year-old’s sacking in April it’s unknown whether that deal will continue and the west Londoners are looking to capitalise on this uncertainty.
Their manager Jose Mourinho is unsure about Luiz’s defensive capabilities and would be fully prepared to use the Brazilian to negotiate a swap deal for Carvalho – with the club also valuing the Brazil international at around £35m.
