In what would be a mirror image of last season’s transfer business, the Blues are targeting a striker and defender from the La Liga side having purchased Diego Costa and Filipe Luis from the Spanish champions last season.
However, Jose Mourinho is willing to let Luis return to the Madrid after just one year at Stamford Bridge, according to The Times.
Griezmann, who has scored 22 league goals in his first season at the Vicente Calderon, has a £43m buy-out clause set in his six-year deal signed in July 2014, according to The Guardian.
Atletico are currently trying to renegotiate that term based on his incredible success this season but know as long as it remains a clause in the contract he could potentially be lured away.
The Guardian go on to say Chelsea are keen on the prospect of signing Toby Alderweireld from the reigning La Liga champions.
The Belgian has enjoyed a great spell on-loan at Southampton this season and has been key to their unexpected challenge for the Champions League places.
The fact he is now a client of super-agent Jorge Mendes, a known friend of Mourinho, could help facilitate a deal.
Chelsea will also look into moves for Spanish international Koke and Barcelona winger Pedro.
Just as they did last year, Chelsea’s recruitment team – headed by Michael Emenalo – are hoping to complete their business as soon early in the transfer window.
