The Brazilian dynamo scores a 20-yard screamer for the Blues…
Chelsea player ratings
- 01 Cech – 6
Wasn’t at fault for Chamakh’s cool finish, and kept out a Stuart O’Keefe effort in the second half that could have stolen two points from the Blues.
- 02 Ivanovic – 7
Got forward enthusiastically down the right flank, and was as solid as ever defensively.
- 28 Azpilicueta – 6
Provides a true engine at fullback, and overlapped Eden Hazard on the left on regular occasions. The quality of his crossing was poor though, which can be forgiven as he’s being played on his unfavoured flank.
- 04 David Luiz – 6
Positionally poor, but has the technical ability and composure to get himself out of sticky situations.
- 26 Terry – 6
Worked hard to cover for David Luiz, but was arguably out of position for Chamakh’s goal for Palace. Did make a great last ditch challenge in the second half though.
- 05 Essien – 5
Arguably should have been sent off, and quite simply – is not the dynamic Premier League midfielder he once was.
- 07 Ramires – 8
Has a wonderful engine in midfield, and worked incredibly hard all afternoon. Also scored a screamer from the edge of the area.
- 22 Willian (Schürrle – 82′ ) – 7
It’s taken a while, but Willian probably had his best game in a Blue shirt on Saturday afternoon. His powerful shot hit the post for Torres to tap in the opener.
- 10 Mata (Oscar – 62′ ) 6 & 5
Had a great backheel pass in the first half, which probably made up for a pretty quiet afternoon. His replacement did little of note, either.
- 17 Hazard – 7
Impressive dribbling as per usual, but his final product could have been much better. Still probably Chelsea’s best attacking threat.
- 09 Torres (Ba – 84′ ) – 7
Scored a goal in the first half, but along with Chelsea’s other forwards, was roundly criticised by Jose Mourinho post match for not killing teams off.
