Nemanja Matic – 6/10
Nemanja Matic has proved a brilliant signing in the big games so far for Chelsea, but such a defensively minded player was not necessarily needed against Crystal Palace.
The Serb didn’t really do anything wrong, but the selection of a creative player in his stead might have made the difference.
Frank Lampard – 5/10
Frank Lampard was the most attacking player selected in Chelsea’s midfield, but the England star is more a runner and finisher than creator, and as a result was unable to influence the game as he would have liked.
David Luiz – 6/10
When Jose Mourinho arrived at Chelsea, he promised never to select David Luiz in midfield like his predecessor Rafa Benitez, but the Portuguese boss has done so recently to good effect.
Luiz played reasonably well, but was forced to withdraw injured at the end of the first half, and was replaced by Oscar.
