Chelsea had Belgian winger Eden Hazard to thank for a breathtaking performance on the left flank. His hat-trick earned the Blues three points. Read player ratings here:
Petr Cech – 7/10
Petr Cech made six decent saves in the Chelsea goal, and the Czech Republic goalkeeper showed the usefulness of having a reliably solid presence behind the defence – however good they might be.
Gary Cahill – 7/10
Gary Cahill is arguably Chelsea’s first choice central defender, with John Terry in the twilight of his career, and may be given the chance to develop a partnership with new signing Kurt Zouma next season.
David Luiz – 6/10
David Luiz wasn’t at his imperious best as he often is for his country, but the Brazilian rarely had to be as Newcastle United struggled to penetrate the Chelsea midfield.
Branislav Ivanovic – 7/10
Wasn’t at his powerful best, but played a crucial role in Chelsea breaking the deadlock, setting up Eden Hazard for the opening strike of the game.
Cesar Azpilicueta – 7/10
Cesar Azpilicueta once again displayed impressive qualities from left back, and illustrated why he is keeping Ashley Cole out the team.
