Chelsea succumbed to a 0-1 loss to Aston Villa at Villa Park, and went down to nine men in the process thanks to red cards for Willian and Ramires.
Read player ratings here:
Petr Cech – 7/10
Petr Cech dealt with everything Aston Villa thrown at him.
Thibaut Courtois and the Czech Republic goalkeeper look set for a tremendous battle for a place in Jose Mourinho’s side next season.
Branislav Ivanovic – 6/10
Branislav Ivanovic was physically strong as ever, but did not provide his usual threat in attack as Aston Villa marshalled him well.
Cesar Azpilicueta – 7/10
Cesar Azpilicueta got forward excellently on the left flank, illustrating why he has taken Ashley Cole’s place in the team with a fine performance.
The Spaniard’s comfort using both feet makes him able to go both down the outside and cut infield, offering a threat from full back few teams regularly face.
Gary Cahill – 7/10
Gary Cahill dealt impressively with the physicality of Christian Benteke and stepped up a number of times to win possession well.
Cahill has proved a worthy successor to John Terry in the England line-up, and his performances alongside him at club level have certainly helped.
John Terry – 6/10
John Terry occasionally showed signs of struggling with the pace of the Aston Villa attack but remains a fine defender who has been arguably the best in the Premier League this season.
