‘Mou’ wants to add a powerful centre back to the Blues squad.
New Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho may make a surprise move to sign up-and-coming FC Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala for next season, according to reports in the Daily Telegraph.
The young France Under-21 international has only been at the Dragao for just the two campaigns now, having signed for the Portuguese giants from Belgium outfit Standard Liege for only 6.5 million euros in Aug 2011.
However, in the intervening two-year period the 22-year-old has earned quite a reputation for himself throughout the Continent on the back of a number of eye-catching displays for his club, especially in last season’s Uefa Champions League as Porto made it all the way through to the knockout phase of Europe’s premier club competition.
Mangala has featured in 53 matches for Porto in all competitions, scoring an impressive eight goals in the process, including four strikes in his 30 league outings for the club.
And now it is believed that the ‘Special One’ wants to return to his old employers when the transfer window reopens on July 1 to sign the central back.
