Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma is believed to be a shock £25m target for Italian giants Roma.
The young Frenchman impressed in his 28 appearances for the Blues last season, but Chelsea’s interest in Everton centre-back John Stones has raised doubts over his future.
And Roma coach Rudi Garcia has put Zouma top of his shortlist of potential replacements for Alessio Romagnoli, who has joined AC Milan, according to the Sunday People.
The Serie A club would be happy to sign the 20-year-old on loan if a permanent deal cannot be agreed, but that is unlikely as Chelsea are already short of defenders.
Zouma is currently back-up to established first-choice pairing John Terry and Gary Cahill. Branislav Ivanovic and Cesar Azpilicueta complete the current defensive ranks at Stamford Bridge.
Roma seem to have turned their attention to the former Saint-Etienne player after having a loan bid for Liverpool centre-back Mamadou Sakho – Zouma’s international colleague – knocked back.
