The Blues stars likely to take to the field against the Swiss champions.
It’s the return of the Champions League and Chelsea travel to Switzerland to take on FC Basel in their fifth European match of this group.
The Swiss champions were 1-2 victors in the reverse fixture of this tie at Stamford Bridge, but since then the Blues have looked in good form and have picked up maximum points – including two 3-0 wins over Schalke 04.
After beating West Ham United 0-3 in the Premier League at the weekend, manager Jose Mourinho probably won’t be looking to make too many changes.
Here’s how fanatix thinks the team will line up against Basel.
Goalkeeper and defence
Petr Cech is the undisputed No.1 at Stamford Bridge and the 32-year-old has shown great form once again this term so will almost certainly start.
A back four of Branislav Ivanovic, Gary Cahill, John Terry and Cesar Azpilicueta was used to great effect against West Ham at the weekend and is seemingly the preferred combination of Mourinho.
David Luiz will definitely miss the tie with a knee injury, whilst Ashley Cole has looked out of sorts and is behind Azpilicueta and even Ryan Bertrand for a place.
Midfield
Mourinho went with a three man midfield against the Hammers, but John Obi Mikel may drop out of the starting XI for this tie as the west London club chase all three points.
Both Frank Lampard and Ramires have looked stronger than the Nigerian this campaign and are likely to be the chosen pairing.
Attack
It’s almost certain that Eden Hazard and Oscar will occupy two of the three spots in attacking midfield with the pair having greatly impressed this term.
For the final position on the left wing things are a bit more tricky however, with a straight decision between Andre Schurrle and Willian, but for the simple reason that the German has had more game time in Europe this term it’s the 23-year-old that gets the place.
Finally Samuel Eto’o is likely to continue leading the line, as although Fernando Torres is back from injury Mourinho is unlikely to risk the Spaniard this early on and Demba Ba is not a favourite of the 50-year-old’s.
