The Blues are very keen to bring Shaw to west London.
Southampton left-back Luke Shaw has attracted the interest of several top Premier League sides and Chelsea are prepared to pay a whopping £30m for the teenager, according to the Daily Express.
This fee would be a British transfer record and would signal just how highly the Blues rate the 18-year-old starlet.
Shaw has become the Saints first choice on the left side of defence despite still being so young and has already amassed plenty of top flight experience.
The west London club have tried and failed to sign the Englishman on two separate occasions previously, but think they can tie up the deal in the January transfer window.
The full-back grew up as a fan of the four-time English champions and it’s thought would be tempted by a move to Stamford Bridge.
However, having just signed a five-year contract at St Mary’s, chairman Nicola Cortese will not let the youngster leave for anything other than a huge price.
Previously Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have all been snapped up from the Hampshire club and gone onto impress.
This pursuit of Shaw seems to signal the end of Ashley Cole’s time with the team, having been at the club for a little over seven years after a controversial transfer from Arsenal in 2006.
The England international is about to turn 33-years-old and has struggled with form this term, which has led to Cole being dropped from the starting XI both domestically and for the national team.
