The Blues are weighing up a move for Carvalho.

Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho has been a target for both Arsenal and Manchester United this summer, but it is Chelsea who are preparing a £35m bid for him, according to Portuguese daily A Bola.
This is just £1m less than the 22-year-old’s £36m release clause and therefore if the Blues really are interested would probably stretch to that if Sporting refuse to budge on the price.
Carvalho has been impressing over the past 12 months in the Portuguese capital, making 33 appearances for the Primeira Liga club in all competitions in 2013/14 and also earning six caps for Portugal during the same time period.
However, despite this recent success the midfield ace is still lacking any significant experience at the very top level and therefore such a hefty price him poses something of a risk.
Both the Gunners and United have been keeping tabs in their respective searches for a defensive midfielder, but both were put off by the asking price.
The Blues meanwhile look to already have a relatively completed squad having acquired Cesc Fabregas, Diego Costa, Filipe Luis and Didier Drogba this summer.
Yet with the future of John Obi Mikel at Stamford Bridge still in doubt another holding player to support Nemanja Matic may not be such a bad idea.
Jose Mourinho also has funds to spend that still adheres with UEFA’s FFP rule having overseen the combined £68m sales of David Luiz and Romelu Lukaku.
