Blues ready to challenge Gunners for Fiorentina star.
Chelsea boss-in-waiting Jose Mourinho is preparing to hijack Arsenal’s £25m move for Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic, reports the Daily Star.
Jovetic is a top target for the Gunners and manager Arsene Wenger is believed to be confident of landing the forward this summer.
But Mourinho – who will be officially confirmed as Chelsea boss after Real Madrid’s final match of the La Liga season on Saturday week – also wants to sign the Montenegrin hit-man.
Outgoing Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez has confirmed that the Special One will have a £100m transfer budget this summer, making the Blues favourites should it come to a bidding war for Jovetic.
The 23-year-old scored 13 goals in the Serie A as Fiorentina suffered Champions League heartbreak on the final day of the season. The Montenegro international’s strike partner in Florence, Luca Toni, recently hinted that his teammate would leave the club, claiming Jovetic felt unloved by La Viola’s fans.
A source close to Mourinho reportedly told the Star: “Jose appreciates JoJo (Jovetic) a lot. Let’s see what happens when he is at Chelsea.”
