Tiago set to make a surprise return to Stamford Bridge.
Atletico Madrid midfielder Tiago is out of contract this summer and is preparing to make a shock return to former side Chelsea, according to the Daily Mail.
The 33-year-old spent a year at Stamford Bridge in 2004/05 under the guidance of fellow countryman Jose Mourinho, winning the Premier League and League Cup during that time.
However, since January 2010 Tiago has been part of the revolution at Atletico, initially joining on-loan from Juventus before making the move permanent in 2011.
Since then the Portugal international has played 157 games in all competitions for Diego Simeone’s men, helping the Spaniards to the success in the Europa League, La Liga, Copa del Rey and their first ever Champions League final in 2014.
Yet despite this Tiago is looking to leave the Vicente Calderon Stadium and Simeone is already preparing for the Portuguese’s departure by promoting 19-year-old Saul Niguez to the first team – with the youngster impressing whilst on-loan with Rayo Vallecano in 2013/14.
Mourinho is preparing a heavy raid on Atleti this year, with Diego Costa strongly linked with a transfer as well, whilst goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will return to the Blues after three successful years on-loan in the Spanish capital.
The 51-year-old is also said to be interested in left-back Felipe Luis as the manager looks to significantly improve his squad after a relatively disappointing first 12 months back in west London.
