Chelsea have reportedly pulled out of a move to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Tiago this summer due to an unspecified licensing issue, according to Marca.
The Blues have been in talks over a deal to sign the veteran Portuguese star, who had a spell at Stamford Bridge earlier in his career, but now appear to be out of the running for the 33-year-old midfield battler.
Valencia are also interested in the player, who was instrumental for Diego Simeone’s side as they won La Liga and reached the Champions League final last season, though it is also thought that he could still sign a new one-year contract to extend his stay at the Vicente Calderon.
Tiago’s wage demands have so far been a stumbling block in a deal to remain with Atletico, but the club will be desperate not to lose another key member of their title-winning squad after already seeing Diego Costa, Filipe Luis, Thibaut Courtois and David Villa depart this summer, with the possibility of Miranda joining them as well.
Atletico, meanwhile, have been linked with a move to bring former favourite Fernando Torres back to the club.
