Chelsea are set to bid for FC Schalke 04 star and Germany international Julian Draxler.
Chelsea are contemplating a sensational move to sign FC Schalke 04 winger Julian Draxler, according to German publication Kicker.
The 19 year-old signed a contract extension until 2018 last month, but the deal contains a minimum fee release clause of 45 million Euros (approximately £38.4m), and Jose Mourinho is reportedly ready to match that figure.
Along with Borussia Dortmund’s Bayern Munich-bound playmaker Mario Goetze, Draxler has emerged as one of the great young talents in German football.
Since becoming a first team regular for Schalke in January 2011 at the age of just 17, Draxler has improved rapidly, and this past season scored ten goals in the Bundesliga, also supplying three assists in his 24 league starts for the Gelsenkirchen club.
Draxler’s deal has been buoyantly hailed by FC Schalke 04 “with pride and passion until 2018,” but as Kicker put it, no sooner has the ink dried on the teenager’s signature before the first litmus test has arrived.
Should he move to Chelsea, Draxler will face far more of a fight to get into the starting XI, and because of FC Schalke 04’s fourth place finish in the Bundesliga, he will gain additional UEFA Champions League experience with his current club where he is already first choice.
Draxler already faces a big decision in his young career.
