Chelsea are set for talks with Ukrainian international Andriy Yarmolenko.
Jose Mourinho gazumped Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers when it came to the signing of FC Basel winger Mohamed Salah in January – and the Daily Star are reporting that he looks to do the same again with Ukrainian international Andriy Yarmolenko.
The Reds have been linked with both the Dynamo Kiev star and his international teammate Yevhen Konoplyanka – although it was the latter player from Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk who almost joined the Reds at the end of the January transfer window.
Stoke City and West Ham United have also been linked with audacious moves for Konoplyanka, who is one of the Ukrainian domestic league and national team’s finest performers and has been since he burst onto the scene with Dynamo in 2008.
The 24 year-old is, however, thought to be keen to test himself abroad in one of the major European leagues, whilst the domestic security situation in Ukraine could still have major implications for football in the Eastern European country.
Chelsea are believed to be looking for another attacking player to compliment Salah, Willian, Eden Hazard and Oscar as the players rotating behind likely new lone striker Diego Costa, with Yarmolenko offering yet another dimension to an impressive line-up of creative talents.
With Stoke believed to have offered £12 million for the player, he is not likely to come cheap, but if Chelsea’s interest is serious then the Blues have to be considered as the leading contenders for his signature.
