Chelsea are set to make a huge bid to sign Man Utd star to add to the summer recruitments at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho’s courting of Wayne Rooney may be far from over yet. According to reports in the Daily Star, the Blues are set to table a massive £40m bid for the Manchester United ace.
The west Londoners have been hot on the tails of the English striker for over a year. The club had two successive bids for Rooney rejected last summer, before the football world saw him putting pen to paper on a mammoth £300,000-a-week deal at Old Trafford.
However, Mourinho is known to be a man who never loses hope and Louis van Gaal’s arrival at the Greater Manchester club may provide him with the perfect chance to give shape to his plans. Football pundits are of the view that the Dutchman may favour his compatriot Robin van Persie at his new club, which may not exactly appeal to Rooney.
The Englishman would therefore need reassurances from Van Gaal before deciding upon his next move. And, with Diego Costa set to move to Chelsea in the next few days, Rooney may also not wish to rush into a transfer to Stamford Bridge.
