Saido Berahino has impressed Blues boss Jose Mourinho this season…
Chelsea will move for West Brom’s wonderkid striker Saido Berahino when the transfer window reopens in January, reports the Metro.
The 20-year-old has scored five goals in six matches this season, including an impressive strike against Manchester United at Old Trafford that helped the Baggies leave with an unlikely three points.
Berahino is a former refugee from Burundi, but has been playing for West Brom as a youngster since 2004, before making his Premier League debut this year.
Chelsea are willing to offer £5m for the prodigal attacker, but Baggies boss Steve Clarke will be desperate to keep hold of the striker.
Despite the promise of a huge increase in wages, a move to Chelsea might not be the best thing for Berahino’s career. With European pedigree players like Kevin De Bruyne, Willian and Demba Ba struggling for any game time at all, and Romelu Lukaku being shipped out on loan, it is unlikely that Berahino will get any sort of chance at Stamford Bridge, regardless of his talent.
West Brom face a difficult task in the Premier League on Sunday when they host league leaders Arsenal, and Berahino will likely be given another chance to impress.
