Chelsea are ready to offer €52m (£44.2m) for Napoli striker Edinson Cavani, according to Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri.
The Blues have long been linked with a move for the Uruguayan but Real Madrid are thought to be favourites for Cavani, who scored a staggering 29 Serie A goals in just 34 appearances this season.
The 26-year-old has been linked with Manchester City as well as Chelsea but according to his not-so-subtle father, the forward favours a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
“Cavani’s intention is to play for Madrid,” Luis Cavani is quoted as saying by the Daily Telegraph.
“He is excited about it and is very willing to see it through.
“He has told the family in private that he wants to join Real Madrid but if he declares it publicly it will annoy Napoli.”
With former Liverpool and Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez now in charge at Napoli, it has been suggested that the Blues could offer former Anfield favourite Fernando Torres in part-exchange for Cavani but Italian Palmeri has indicated the offer does not involve any players.
He also joked that if Chelsea continued making bids, they would match Cavani’s release clause – reported to be £53m – before Real Madrid had appointed head-coach in waiting Carlo Ancelotti, who is still negotiating a departure from PSG.
(with this pace, by June 21 Chelsea should match Cavani release clause… unless Real Madrid won’t have announced Ancelotti already…)

Cavani has previously stated that it would be a ‘pleasure’ to work with either Blues boss Jose Mourinho or new Manchester City head-coach Manuel Pellegrini.
“It would be a pleasure to be managed by someone like him. Chelsea? I don’t know if they’ve made an offer for me but I know that working for a coach like Pellegrini or Mourinho would be a great pleasure,” the striker is quoted as saying by the Guardian.
