Mourinho prepared to meet Khedira’s wage demands.
Chelsea could offload their long serving midfielder John Obi Mikel this summer as they prepare to bring in an enforcer of higher pedigree in Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira, reports the Daily Express.
Mikel, 27, has not been a regular in the Chelsea set up for the last few seasons and only started 11 games for the Blues last term.
Manager Jose Mourinho feels that the Nigerian could therefore be shown the door to accommodate Khedira, who would add more power to his midfield.
Khedira is an Arsenal target, but with the Gunners hesitating to match the German international’s £150,000 per week wage demands, Mourinho could swoop in to hijack the move.
It would be interesting to see whether Khedira would be persuaded to move to Stamford Bridge while he is still reportedly in negotiations with Arsenal, but the Blues seem set to move on the insipid Mikel for a reasonable price before they make more midfield additions.
