Although surrounded by some of the best young players in world football at Barca’s La Masia training facility, Simons has already stood out as a particularly special talent.
The Catalans are aware that others teams are keeping a close eye on the Dutch ace as well and have spoken with his parents to try and convince them to keep their son in Spain.
History is certainly a good indicator as to why this could work for Simons, with current stars of the Nou Camp Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta, Lionel Messi, Gerard Pique and Xavi having all come through the academy.
The Spanish giants have a reputation of poaching the best young international talent and then developing them in Catalonia, something which has seen them recently slapped with an 18-month transfer ban from FIFA for breaching the rules.
Simons currently plays as a midfielder and such is the high regard the Blues hold the protegee that they are prepared to pay huge sums for a player still so young.
