Spaniard says Premier League does remain a top priority for him.
Chelsea head coach Rafa Benitez reiterated that finishing in the top four of the Premier League this season was still his number one priority after watching his side overcome Manchester United 1-0 in their FA Cup quarter-final replay at Stamford Bridge on Monday afternoon.
The Cup holders secured their well-deserved victory thanks to a sensational piece of individual brilliance from lone front man Demba Ba just after the half-time interval and will now take on top-flight champions Manchester City in the semi-finals at Wembley in just under two weeks’ time.
And, after the full-time whistle, Benitez was keen to emphasise that the West London club are still on course for a successful end to what at times has been a draining and long-running campaign for the club.
“The priority for us is to finish in the top four but in a top side you have to keep in every competition and try to win it,” said Benitez in his post-match press conference.
“The race for the top four will be up until the end of the season but we are in the top four with a game in hand, we are in the semi-finals of the FA Cup and the Europa League quarter-finals, so it is a great season so far.”
