Striker wants to leave Chelsea for Everton
Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku wants to be allowed to join Everton on a permanent deal, according to the Toffees’ head of recruitment Ian Atkins.
Atkins reportedly told talkSPORT that the Merseyside club are reasonably confident of landing the Belgian youngster, who spent last season on loan at Goodison Park after failing to break into Jose Mourinho’s side.
“Romelu had a terrific season for Everton last year and I know everyone at the football club wants to see him back,” Atkins said.
“Hopefully things can be sorted out, I think he’s quite settled in his mind that he wants to come to Everton, and hopefully he’ll be pulling on our blue shirt again next term.”
Real Madrid also linked with Lukaku
Everton could face competition from Real Madrid for the signing of Lukaku, according to the Daily Express.
The Spanish giants are looking for options to strengthen upfront after selling youngster Alvaro Morata to Juventus this summer, and Lukaku is among their main targets in that position.
Despite so much interest from top clubs around Europe, it seems unlikely that the 21-year-old will work his way into the Chelsea side this season, with the club signing the likes of Diego Costa and Didier Drogba upfront.
Chelsea target linked with Bernabeu switch
Real Madrid could also be set to make a move for one of Chelsea’s long-standing targets Radamel Falcao in their bid to bring in a new striker.
Spanish publication AS claims that the Colombian international would join the Champions League winners on an initial £10m loan deal from his current side AS Monaco, with a view to a permanent move next summer.
The 28-year-old has long been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, but they seem to have cooled their interest in the player.
West Ham eye former Chelsea star
West Ham United are the latest club to be linked with a move to snap up recently-released Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o, according to the Sun.
The Hammers are on the lookout for a new striker after learning that star player Andy Carroll would be set for a lengthy layoff with injury, leaving Sam Allardyce short of quality options upfront.
Eto’o spent just one season with Chelsea, scoring 12 goals for the Blues but failing to earn an extension to his short-term deal.
Chelsea missed out on Luke Shaw
Chelsea were determined to sign Manchester United new-boy Luke Shaw from Southampton this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
Jose Mourinho has recently been quoted as saying that the youngster’s wage demands are too high and that bringing him to Stamford Bridge on that kind of money would have been a bad idea, but it is also claimed that the club tried up until the last minute to beat United to his signature.
Chelsea instead signed Filipe Luis from Atletico Madrid as they sought a replacement for the departing Ashley Cole.
