Chelsea and Manchester City are poised to compete for the signature of Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna this summer, according to the Daily Star.
The 31-year-old, who has been a Gunners player since July 2007, is almost certainly going to leave the Emirates Stadium at the end of the season.
Sagna’s current contract expires next month and talks over a new one appear to have petered out, with the Frenchman reportedly wanting a significantly longer deal with a bigger weekly wage.
Inter Milan and Galatasaray have both been credited with interest in Sagna, but the Daily Star claim that he is keen to remain in England’s Premier League.
The paper adds that Stamford Bridge or the Etihad Stadium are his two most likely destinations.
Sagna made his 212th league appearance for Arsenal during Sunday’s 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion.
The home fans sang: “Bacary Sagna, we want you to stay…”
Unfortunately, it looks as though those supporters are going to be left disappointed.
