The 21 year-old was believed to be in advanced negotiations with Real Madrid over a January transfer to the European champions, but that move could be in jeopardy after Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho personally persuaded club officials to move for the player.
The Blues will now look to hijack the deal and bring Silva to Stamford Bridge, where he would become the fourth Brazilian midfield option alongside Willian, Oscar and Ramires, all of whom have been successful since moving to the club.
