Chelsea are closing in on the capture of Stuttgart defender Antonio Rudiger, according to reports.
Rudiger looked set to join Italian giants AS Roma in a loan deal, however, Metro reports the move has collapsed with the Blues ready to swoop.
According to the report, Chelsea are keen to close out a £20m deal to bring the 22-year-old to Stamford Bridge before the closure of the summer transfer window.
Chelsea are keen to sign a talented young centre-back as John Terry nears the end of his career, and Rudiger certainly fits the bill.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho is understood to be desperate to sign Everton defender John Stones, however, Everton manager Roberto Martinez insists the 21-year-old is not for sale.
Chelsea’s defence was made to look second-rate by Manchester City on Sunday, with Blues skipper John Terry benched at half-time due to tactical reasons.
Mourinho insisted that Terry was substituted at the break to inject more speed into back four due to the Blues’ high defensive line.
