Top-flight duo are both desperate to land Uruguay forward this summer.
Chelsea are hoping to steal a march on fellow big-spending Premier League rivals Manchester City in the race to land in-form Napoli front man Edinson Cavani at the end of the season, reports the Sun.
The Uruguay international is currently one of the Continent’s most sought-after strikers, having netted an eye-catching 28 goals in just 33 Serie A matches to date for his club.
And overall in all competitions so far this campaign, the 26-year-old has recorded an equally impressive 36 strikes in only 42 contests for high-flying Napoli, form in front of goal that has resulted in a mad scramble for Cavani’s signature when the transfer window reopens on 1 June.
However, both mega-rich Premier League clubs also know that they will have to meet the £52 million buy-out clause in the attacker’s Napoli contract, that runs until 30 June 2017, if they wish to land the player this summer.
