Blues to hand Nigerian star a lifeline despite disappointing loan campaign.
Chelsea are set to hand winger Victor Moses a second chance to prove himself at the club this season despite disappointing during his loan spell with Liverpool last season, the Daily Star reports.
The Nigeria international made his first appearance for the club in over a year at the weekend when he helped them overcome Hungarian side Ferencvaros.
He spent the previous campaign on loan to Liverpool where he failed to make the most of his time at Anfield – making just six appearances as the side recorded a second place finish in the Premier League.
Aston Villa were thought to be chasing Moses with many believing he was on his way out of Stamford Bridge but he looks set to be give a reprieve due to Premier League and Champions League home-grown player rules.
However, despite the interest from elsewhere he had vowed to stay and fight for his place at the club following the victory at the weekend.
“There are a lot of quality players here but I will keep giving it all I have got,” he said.
“I just have to forget about last season and think about this season, concentrate and keep working hard.
“What happened at Liverpool – that’s football for you. It was a loan move, I wanted to play football but I unfortunately didn’t get as many games as I expected.
“My fitness is getting there. It was my first pre-season game – I came back injured after the World Cup. I couldn’t join up with the lads and was just getting treatment at the training ground.
“I’m delighted I got on [against Ferencvaros] and had the minutes I had. You’re looking at three-four games before you get back to full fitness. I’m enjoying my football at the moment and will just keep working hard.”
