Chelsea are likely to reward one of their most consistent performers in Gary Cahill with a bumper new deal worth £120,000 per week that will extend till 2018, reports the Daily Mirror.
The 28-year old moved from Bolton in 2012 and has seamlessly fit in as one of the mainstays of the Blues’ defence in the last couple of seasons.
Alongside John Terry, Cahill formed arguably the most consistent centre-back pairing in the Premier League last season, which seems to have left a lasting impression on the Chelsea hierarchy.
Blues’ boss Jose Mourinho possibly sees Cahill as the leader of his defence after the retirement of Terry, and thus has made a swift move to seal his future at the club. Mourinho is looking to bring in a couple of promising young defenders into the first team after moving on David Luiz this summer, and 19-year old new acquisition Kurt Zouma has already been earmarked as one to partner Cahill in defence in the long term.
