7) Is Wojciech Szczesny good enough for Arsenal?
Having lost his place midway through the season, the answer would appear to be no. And yet, the Pole was still trusted in the FA Cup final and put in an assured display. One feels that the only thing preventing Szczesny from being a top class keeper is his attitude, so will he get another chance to prove himself next season? Or has time run out as Arsenal chase the signing of Chelsea’s Petr Cech?
8) Why were Radamel Falcao and Angel Di Maria so poor?
Two world class players, but two massive disappointments. It is hard to pin down why some players just don’t settle in at some clubs and there are surely dozens of off-the-pitch issues we know nothing about that play a big part. Still, Falcao and Di Maria have both been consistently superb throughout their careers at various teams, and there’s no obvious reason they couldn’t both have done at least a little better in a Manchester United team that did show strong signs of improvement under Louis van Gaal, with even Ashley Young and Marouane Fellaini looking like world beaters at times.
9) Why is Louis van Gaal SO stubborn with tactics?
Still, Van Gaal must answer some critics as well this season. Fourth place is all very well, but things will have to get better pretty quickly for United next season, with some serious doubts remaining over some strange tactical decisions and poor style of play at times this season. Why did LVG play a back three for so long when it clearly didn’t work, and why did he get such a technically minded team relying on long balls and throw-ins? Is his philosophy really so much more important than immediate results?
