The 24-year-old has had an excellent season at the St Mary’s Stadium, showing himself to be one of the finest attacking right-backs in the league whilst also becoming a regular for the England national team.
This has led to interest from United in improving in that area of the pitch, while Chelsea have also shown an interest in the player, possibly in response to rumours that the club could end up losing Branislav Ivanovic to Bayern Munich in the next transfer window.
Clyne would have made a fine replacement for the Serbian in that part of the pitch, but it seems the player himself is leaning towards a move to Old Trafford instead, with the Red Devils looking good value to be part of the title race next season after improved fortunes since Louis van Gaal took over the club.
