The French champions are prepared to make Luiz the most expensive defender of all time.
Paris Saint-Germain are ready to open their chequebook again this summer with a colossal £50m bid for Chelsea centre-back David Luiz, according to the Sun.
This fee will make the Brazil international the most expensive defender of all time, eclipsing the £37m they paid for captain Thiago Silva in 2012.
PSG will offer such a hefty price in order to ward off interest from other interested parties such as Barcelona and Bayern Munich and the Blues are likely to jump at the chance.
Manager Jose Mourinho has been unsure of Luiz’s defensive capabilities ever since returning to Stamford Bridge in 2013.
During the last season Mourinho has preferred the central partnership of Gary Cahill and skipper John Terry – which worked to great effect as the west Londoners had the best defensive record in the Premier League in 2013/14.
As a result Luiz has been used more often in midfield, but there is a great impression that the boss isn’t really sure how to utilise the Brazilian.
Therefore being offered more than double the £22m fee the English side paid Benfica for the 27-year-old back in 2011 is an extremely attractive prospect.
PSG manager Laurent Blanc is a huge admirer of Luiz however, being convinced of just how good the South American was during his performances against the Ligue 1 champions in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Blanc is also keen on raiding the Bridge for attacking midfield duo Eden Hazard and Oscar as well, although Mourinho is less likely to want to part with that pair.
Luiz is currently in his home nation with Luis Felipe Scolari’s squad as they prepare for the 2014 World Cup and PSG will want to tie up this deal before the tournament starts on June 12.
