The left-back was deemed surplus to requirements by Blues manager Jose Mourinho ahead of the 2014/15 season and was therefore sent to St Mary’s on-loan as a replacement for the departed Luke Shaw.
Since then Bertrand has greatly impressed as the Saints have looked good in the Premier League and currently sit second in the table behind the 25-year-old’s parent club.
Ronald Koeman has first option to buy the England international next summer for £10m and this is clearly something the player himself would be open to.
“I think it is one of those things where I’ve got to wait and see,” Bertrand was quoted by the Mirror.
“But for me, there’s no reason why not, to be honest. It has been a great experience for me so far.
“There is a good base to the club, we are pulling in the right direction and have fantastic players, manager and coaching staff.”
