Schurrle is in a case of trying to dig the German’s way out of a hole.
Germany and Chelsea forward Andre Schurrle is trying to make amends after stating Manchester United ace Wayne Rooney is not good enough to play for the German national team.
The two countries meet in a friendly on Tuesday, with England on the back of a 0-2 home defeat to Chile on Friday and Schurrle stated the Three Lions’ best player Rooney could not even make the starting XI for the Blues’ star’s nation.
“Rooney is a great player, but we have good quality, too, in every position, and maybe twice, so I don’t know if he would play,” the 23-year-old was quoted by the Daily Mail.
After the majority of the British media reported on the story, the forward has taken to Twitter to try and clear things up.
That’s not what I meant to say about Rooney!!!! He is a great player!!!!

Unfortunately for the attacker it seems to be a case of the best policy if just to keep quiet, as the more Schurrle speaks about Rooney the worse the situation gets.
The United man is likely to be geared up even more for the Wembley clash with England’s old rivals now and Schurrle could be the subject of some abuse from the home crowd.
Rooney has been in superb form for the Premier League champions this term, netting seven goals and providing 10 assists in all competitions so far.
