There are growing concerns at Anfield over the capabilities of Simon Mignolet and the Belgian was dropped for the 3-0 Premier League loss to Manchester United on Sunday.
Brad Jones filled in for Mignolet at Old Trafford and is expected to retain his spot for the Capital One Cup clash with Bournemouth, but the Australian is not considered a long-term solution.
The Reds have long been linked with Cech, but Blues manager Jose Mourinho made it clear he was not ready to part with the 32-year-old on a permanent basis.
However, Mourinho could be open to allowing the Czech Republic international leave on-loan – especially as the Merseysiders are no longer seen as genuine title rivals.
Cech would not be allowed to play against his parent club, but would be eligible for matches with Arsenal, Manchester City and Man United and could therefore help the West Londoners in their pursuit of the title.
The ‘keeper has lost his place in Mourinho’s starting XI this season to the younger Thibuat Courtois.
