The midfielder has been linked with a host of top European clubs in recent weeks and it now appears the Italians have joined in the battle to do a deal with the England international.
Lampard’s contract expires in the summer, and with just 6 months left on his contract, is officially permitted to discuss terms with foreign clubs over a potential move.
That puts European clubs at a significant advantage to the likes of Manchester United and Everton, who have to wait until later in the season before being able to officially follow up their interest in the player.
Fiorentina President Mario Cognigni stated ‘Lampard is a player I have always liked and may be an example of today’s marketplace. A player who has passed 30 years, his contract is expiring, and he may be the right combination between experience and cost of the deal.’
Many Chelsea fans remain in a state of bewilderment regarding the club’s stance towards Lampard. Blues supporters are tending to agree with the managers of top European clubs in thinking Lampard still has something to offer at the highest level.
