The Brazilian admits that the Nou Camp didn’t interest him.
Chelsea defender David Luiz has revealed that an offer did come in from Barcelona for the 26-year-old, but the Brazil international turned down a switch to the Nou Camp.
Barca were prepared to pay the Blues a colossal £65m fee for Luiz, but the centre-back was not interested in the move at all.
“There has been an official proposal, but I opted for Chelsea. It was better for me and for all,” the South American told Gazeta Esportiva.
“I’m happy to play in a big club and represent my country in the Brazilian national team.”
The Blues ace and the player’s Brazilian team mate Thiago Silva were both targeted by the Catalans this summer, but the pair decided to stay with their respective clubs.
Luiz is yet to play under returning manager Jose Mourinho, having been at the Confederations Cup this summer and then recovering from a slight injury.
This led to speculation that the former Real Madrid coach did not see the defender in the plans at Stamford Bridge, but Mourinho quashed those claims by stating the South American would not be sold.
Luiz was one of the west London club’s best players last term, making 57 appearances in all competitions and helping the side to Europa League glory – in no small part by scoring goals in both legs of the semi-final with FC Basel.
In the end Barca did not sign the desired defender the Spanish champions were seeking and are hoping club captain Carles Puyol regains fitness as soon as possible.
