Chelsea star Nemanja Matic has sent a warning to Premier League rivals Manchester United, saying the Red Devils’ big spending summer could have the potential to backfire.
United have been extremely active in the transfer market this summer, spending a reported £80m on Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin.
It is believed Louis van Gaal is not done yet and is targeting more signings as the Red Devils look to take the fight to the likes of Chelsea for the Premier League title next season.
Chelsea have been relatively quiet so far, but the Serbian midfielder could not resist a dig at United.
“Maybe teams that sign lots of players will end up finding it worse,” Matic is quoted as saying by The Sun.
“It’s sometimes better to stay with the same team, for stability.”
Chelsea have only three confirmed signings this season, with Asmir Begovic, Radamel Falcao and Nathan all putting pen-to-paper with the Premier League champions.
The Sun reports the Blues have had an £20m bid for Everton defender John Stones turned down, suggesting the Blues are not done yet in the transfer market this summer.
