Young Chelsea defender and Nigeria World Cup star Kenneth Omeruo looks set for a loan return to Middlesbrough.
Read more Chelsea rumours.
Centre back Kenneth Omeruo may have been one of the key men in Nigeria’s impressive run to the second round of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, where the Super Eagles were a tad unfortunate to be defeated by France, but this does not appear to mean that he will be given a chance in the first team squad at Chelsea.
According to reports from Sky Sports, a move to take Omeruo back to Middlesbrough, the club where he spent the end of last season on loan, is in the pipeline.
Indeed, Middlesbrough’s Spanish boss Aitor Karanka gives the impression that a deal is close to being complete for Omeruo:
“He played those games in a very good way. I was in contact with him during the World Cup, he wants to join us, Chelsea want to send us the player on loan and we would like to have him back with us again.”
Omeruo would be a superb capture for ‘Boro, with his displays in Brazil having indicated that the 20 year-old former Standard Liege youngster is capable of stepping up to play major top division football after his temporary spells on Teesside and with Dutch side ADO Den Haag.
He put in another impressive display against France in Nigeria’s last sixteen clash, despite Les Bleus eventually edging the Super Eagles out 2-0 to advance to a quarter final against Germany.
