Edin Dzeko could be wearing a different shade of blue next season as Chelsea appears poised to swoop in and grab Manchester City’s £20 million forward.
According to the Daily Star, the Reds are no longer interested in bringing Dzeko into the fold at Man City’s asking price, which leaves Jose Mourinho in a prime position to grab the 29-year-old Bosnian.
The Daily Star reported that Manuel Pellegrini is taking a hard line on the asking price and is more than willing to wait until a team meets it to let Dzeko go.
In four seasons at Wolfsburg in Bundesliga, Dzeko recorded an impressive 66 goals in 111 appearances, earning Bundesliga Player of the Year honors in 2008-09 and finishing as the league’s top goal scorer in 2009-10. Man City acquired Dzeko in the middle of the 2010-11 season for £27 million and in his first full season with the club recorded 14 Premier League goals. From the 2011-12 season to the 2013-14 season, Dzeko recorded at least 14 goals each season and scored 44 in 93 appearances.
But despite signing a contract extension in August 2014, Dzeko failed to earn it for most of the 2014-15 season, scoring just 4 in 22 appearances and going through an agonizing stretch of 15 matches without a goal.
Dzeko also holds the distinction of being the all-time leading scorer for the Bosnian national team, having scored 41 in 71 appearances.
